Pacific Coast & Southern Lowlands (Monterrico, Sipacate, Puerto San José)

February keeps the coast firmly in dry-season pattern: clear skies, hot midday sun and cooling onshore winds that make surf lessons and boat trips comfortable. Fishing charters and turtle conservation projects are busy with visitors, so book in advance if you want guided tours out of Monterrico. Nights remain warm but not stifling; light cottons and insect repellent are sufficient, and visibility for coastal boat trips is usually excellent.

Central Highlands (Antigua, Guatemala City, Lake Atitlán, Panajachel)

February mornings remain bright and dry across Guatemala City, Antigua and Panajachel; the air is often the clearest of the year, which is ideal for volcano viewing and colonial-era walking tours in Antigua. Lake Atitlán’s mornings are glassy and cool, making boat crossings pleasant before the customary afternoon breezes pick up. This is a popular month for Semana Santa planning and cultural visits, so book accommodation early for Antigua if traveling in March-April.

Western Highlands & Sierra de los Cuchumatanes (Quetzaltenango/Xela, Huehuetenango, Todos Santos)

February keeps the highlands dry and crisp, offering excellent conditions for high-elevation treks and clear summit views from areas around Tajumulco and Santa Cruz del Quiché. Local festivals and market days are active and convenient without rain interruptions, making this an excellent month for cultural itineraries. Sun protection is still essential at high altitudes where UV is strong, and bring a warm layer for cold dawns and late nights.

Petén & Maya Lowlands (Flores, Tikal, Yaxhá)

February keeps the jungle feeling warm and breathable with daytime highs often in the high 20s°C (mid-80s°F) and clear skies that favor long archaeological visits. Wildlife activity is high in the mornings around San Ignacio and Tikal, and guided dawn tours reward visitors with spider monkeys and trogons. Nights can be muggy but generally less mosquito-heavy than the wet season, so a light long-sleeved layer and insect repellent are sensible.

Caribbean Coast & Izabal (Puerto Barrios, Río Dulce, Livingston, Izabal lake)

February continues the dry, warm spell along the Caribbean coast, making it ideal for canoe trips to natural hot springs and walking Livingston’s palm-lined shoreline without too many sudden showers. The sea is favorable for crossing to nearby cayes and snorkeling trips remain possible from Puerto Barrios on calm days. Expect fewer tourists than the Pacific coast during high season but respect local schedules for boat departures.
