Grakliani Hill is an archaeological mound and excavation site in the Shida Kartli region of central Georgia, near the modern village that gives it its name. Excavations have revealed multi-period occupation layers including Bronze Age and Early Iron Age remains.
The site has produced structural remains, pottery and ritual contexts that have informed regional chronology for the late second to first millennia BCE. Archaeologists have also reported carved stones and other finds that may represent early writing or symbolic signs.
Fieldwork at Grakliani Hill began in the early 21st century and has continued in seasons led by Georgian teams in cooperation with international researchers. The discoveries have placed the site among the important recent finds for prehistoric and early historic Georgia.
Grakliani Hill lies in Shida Kartli in central Georgia, in a cultivated landscape of low hills and river valleys. It is located inland from Georgia’s eastern lowlands and is accessible from regional towns in the Kaspi area.

How to Get to Grakliani Hill #
Grakliani Hill is near the town of Kaspi in Shida Kartli, east of Tbilisi. From Tbilisi, drive east on the S5 highway toward Gori and Kaspi; local roads lead to the excavation area. Access often requires arrangement with the archaeological team or local authorities.
