Govind Pashu Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary Wildlife Reserve

Govind Pashu Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area in the Indian Himalaya, located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. It was designated to conserve high-altitude Himalayan wildlife and alpine ecosystems.

The sanctuary encompasses high-altitude meadows, steep valleys and forested slopes that provide habitat for species adapted to mountain environments. Notable fauna in the broader region include species such as Himalayan tahr, musk deer and snow leopard, which the protected area aims to safeguard.

The protected area developed over the 20th century as part of India’s system of wildlife sanctuaries and national parks aimed at conserving mountain biodiversity and watersheds.

Geographically the sanctuary lies in the Garhwal Himalaya of northern India; access is typically from mountain roads and trekking routes and is strongly seasonal because of winter snow at higher elevations.
