Goff's Caye
Island Small Belizean cay with coral reefs
A tiny sandy cay on Belize’s barrier reef. Popular as a snorkel and day-trip stop from Belize City for shallow reefs, clear water and beach lounging.
Goff’s Caye is a small sandy island (a cay) on the Belize Barrier Reef off the coast of Belize in Belize District. It is a locally known day-trip destination for beachgoing and reef activities.
The cay offers a narrow white-sand beach and immediate access to shallow coral reef and seagrass areas suitable for snorkelling and swimming. Day-trippers commonly use the island as a base for short reef swims, wildlife viewing and beach picnics.
The cay is a natural reef island used historically by local fishers and now frequented by tourists; it has no large built infrastructure. Its use has remained mainly recreational and subsistence in character rather than urban development.
The island sits off the eastern coast of Belize in Belize District, east of the Belize mainland and accessible only by boat from coastal towns and Belize City.
- Access: Most visitors reach the cay by 20- to 60-minute boat trips from Belize City or nearby coastal marinas, with multiple daily operators during the dry season.
- Snorkelling conditions: Shallow fringing reef and seagrass beds around the cay make it suitable for snorkeling and seeing reef fish and occasionally sea turtles; mornings and calm days give the clearest water.
How to Get to Goff's Caye #
Goff’s Caye is reached by boat from Belize City; most day trips depart from the docks near the Belize Tourism Village and take roughly 20-40 minutes depending on the vessel and sea conditions. Private charters and fishing boats also visit the cay-arrange boat transport in advance.

- Take a morning snorkeling trip from Belize City to avoid afternoon winds and crowded cay spots.
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a snorkel mask; there's little shade and no fresh water on the cay.
