Gibeon (ancient city) Archaeological Site

Gibeon is an ancient Canaanite and Israelite city identified with the archaeological tell known as Tell el-Jib, located in the Jerusalem region. It is mentioned in biblical texts and has produced significant archaeological remains from Bronze and Iron Age levels.

Excavations at the tell have revealed settlement layers, monumental architecture, and features related to urban life such as storage areas and defensive works. One notable feature at the site is an ancient water-management system and traces of fortifications.

The site was inhabited in multiple periods in antiquity and played a regional role in the southern Levantine landscape. Archaeological work at the tell has helped clarify aspects of Canaanite and Israelite urban development.
