Gezi Park is a small urban green space in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, situated immediately beside Taksim Square. The park is a compact, tree‑lined public area used for short respite in a dense urban setting.

The park contains paved paths, lawns and planted trees and provides a quiet contrast to the busy traffic and pedestrian flow of Taksim Square and nearby Istiklal Avenue. It is frequently used by residents and visitors for short breaks and informal gatherings.

Gezi Park has existed as a public garden area through the 20th century and became internationally known in 2013 when mass protests erupted over a municipal development plan affecting the park. Since then it remains symbolically important in the city’s recent civic history.

The park sits in central Istanbul adjacent to Taksim Square and Istiklal Avenue, within walking distance of shops, restaurants and public transport in the Beyoğlu district.

Gezi Park is adjacent to Taksim Square in central Beyoğlu and is reachable via the Taksim metro and funicular. Numerous bus routes and taxis serve Taksim; the park is a short walk from Istiklal Caddesi (the pedestrian avenue).

• Visit early in the morning to see the park before it fills with tourists and to observe the memorials and plane trees in relative calm.
• Note the Taksim/Gezi protests of 2013: look for subtle memorials and street art in the surrounding streets rather than expecting large plaques in the park itself.
• Avoid the small kiosks that circle the park if searching for authentic local tea - walk a block or two into the side streets for better, quieter cafes.
