Falaknuma Palace
Building Opulent Hyderabad palace with Italian-style architecture and views
Hyderabad’s Falaknuma Palace, built by a Paigah noble and later owned by the Nizam, displays marble staircases, chandeliers and Italianate interiors. Now a hotel and museum, it offers tours, dining and city views.
Falaknuma Palace is a late 19th-century palatial residence in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, originally built by a Paigah noble and later incorporated into the Nizam of Hyderabad’s properties. The complex sits on an elevated 32-acre estate and exemplifies European and Indo-Islamic palatial design of its era.
Grand reception rooms, a sweeping marble staircase, a formal library and extensive service and banquet suites laid out for large-scale hospitality. The palace interior features ornate plasterwork, carved wood and richly furnished halls used historically for durbars and state entertaining.
Constructed in the late 1800s by a member of the Paigah family, the palace passed into the Nizam’s ownership and remained a private royal house until the late 20th century. In the 21st century it was restored and converted to a luxury heritage hotel while retaining key historic rooms and decorative schemes.
Falaknuma sits on a hill within the city of Hyderabad, overlooking parts of the old city. The site is reachable by city roads and is commonly visited as part of heritage tours of Hyderabad.
- Estate size: The palace occupies a landscaped estate of roughly 32 acres and sits on a hill with panoramic views over Hyderabad.
