How to Get to Elva, Estonia
Elva lies south of Tartu and is best reached via Tartu (by train or regional bus) or from Tallinn by intercity bus or train plus a short transfer. Tartu is the primary rail/bus hub for reaching Elva.
Tartu Airport (TAY): Tartu Airport is closest to Elva but has limited scheduled services; from the airport take a taxi into Tartu city centre (~10-15 min, ~€8-15) then transfer by bus or train to Elva (see below).
Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport (TLL): Tallinn Airport is the main international gateway. From there take an Elron train or Lux Express bus to Tartu (train ~2-2.5 hours; bus similar), then a short local bus or train from Tartu to Elva (~20-30 min). A taxi from Tallinn Airport to Tallinn centre is ~€10-15 and the combined journey to Elva typically takes 2-3 hours total.
Train: Elron runs the Tallinn-Tartu-Valga line; Tartu is the main rail hub and Elva is on the Tartu-Valga line. The Tartu→Elva train is a short regional service (~15-25 minutes). Purchase tickets via the Elron website or app.
Bus: Intercity buses run from Tallinn (Tallinna Bussijaam) and other cities to Tartu; from Tartu Bus Station there are frequent local buses to Elva (and direct regional services at varying times). Buses are a practical alternative if schedules suit your timing.
