How to Get to El Paraíso
Tegucigalpa - Toncontín (TGU): Tegucigalpa is one of the closest major airports for eastern Honduras. From Toncontín you can take a taxi or arrange a private transfer into Tegucigalpa and then continue by intercity bus toward El Paraíso department; road connections are the usual way to reach towns in the department.
San Pedro Sula - Ramón Villeda Morales (SAP): San Pedro Sula is another international gateway; from there you can take long-distance buses south-east toward Tegucigalpa and onwards to El Paraíso region. Domestic road travel is the primary method to reach smaller municipalities.
Train: Honduras has no active national passenger rail network suitable for intercity travel to El Paraíso.
Bus: Intercity buses connect the major cities (Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula) with towns in El Paraíso Department. Buses and minibuses are the most common, but routes, prices and comfort levels vary - check schedules locally and allow plenty of extra travel time for mountain roads.
How to Get Around El Paraíso #
El Paraíso town is compact enough to walk around the central areas; for other trips use local buses (including so-called “chicken buses”), motos and taxis. Intercity buses connect departments but schedules can be sporadic. Expect inexpensive fares for buses and motos; negotiate taxi prices in advance and carry small change.
