How to Get to El Imposible National Park #
El Imposible National Park is in Ahuachapán Department near the town of Metapán; the park’s main entrances are accessed from the Carretera Panamericana (CA-1) and local roads. From San Salvador it is roughly a 2-3 hour drive west on CA-1; public buses to Ahuachapán or Metapán drop passengers in towns from which taxis or motor-taxis reach the park entrances. Using a local guide or park ranger is recommended for trail orientation.
Tips for Visiting El Imposible National Park #
- Hike the Sendero la Campana and keep an eye out for the jagged 'hanging' cliff vistas-many visitors miss the less-marked viewpoints.
- Bring insect repellent for humid lowland sections and a rain jacket in the wet season-downpours can be sudden.
