About El Campo de Marte

Campo de Marte is a sizeable urban park in Lima’s Jesús María District, comparable in scale to Parque de la Exposición and Parque de la Reserva. It is a popular open space for walking, meeting friends and getting some greenery in the middle of the city.

The site has an earlier life as part of the Santa Beatriz area of Lima District. From 1903 to 1938 it housed the Santa Beatriz Hippodrome, before the racecourse was replaced by one further south in the district, on the San Felipe estate.

Today it functions as a straightforward, central city park rather than a formal museum-like attraction: a useful stop if you want an easy outdoor visit without leaving Lima’s inner neighbourhoods.
