How to Get to Edinburgh of the Seven Seas
Edinburgh of the Seven Seas is the main settlement on Tristan da Cunha, a very remote South Atlantic island with no airport. Visitors reach the island by sea from Cape Town - passages are infrequent, booked through Tristan da Cunha authorities or authorised operators, and take several days at sea.
Cape Town International Airport (CPT): Cape Town is the usual international gateway for travel to Tristan da Cunha; there is no airport on Tristan. From Cape Town you must arrange sea passage to reach Edinburgh of the Seven Seas - flights only get you to Cape Town, the island is accessible by ship only.
(No other airport provides direct access to Tristan da Cunha): There are no scheduled flights to Tristan da Cunha or to its settlement-the island has no airstrip suitable for regular passenger aircraft.
Train: There are no rail connections to Tristan da Cunha itself. In practice you travel by rail or road to Cape Town’s port if coming overland inside South Africa; Cape Town has good train and bus links within the city.
Bus: To reach the ship’s departure point in Cape Town you can use Cape Town’s MyCiTi buses (fares roughly R20-R45 depending on distance) or taxis/rideshares to Table Bay Harbour. The sea voyage to Tristan is arranged separately and departs from Cape Town harbour; bus and rail are only part of the overland approach to the port.
