The Dormition Cathedral (Assumption Cathedral) is the principal cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin complex and a key historic church of the Russian state. It is located within the Kremlin in central Moscow.
The cathedral was built in the late 15th century by the Italian architect Aristotele Fioravanti and served as the site for coronations, important religious ceremonies and burials of senior church leaders in Russia. It is one of the Kremlin’s oldest and most significant ecclesiastical buildings.
The building has been restored and conserved over the centuries following periods of damage and modification, and it remains a focal point within the Kremlin’s cluster of palaces and cathedrals.
