Dhakeshwari Temple is a principal Hindu temple complex in Dhaka and is often described as the national temple of Bangladesh. The shrine is dedicated to the goddess Dhakeshwari and occupies an important place in the religious life of the country’s Hindu community.

The complex contains multiple shrines and is an active center for worship and religious festivals, with major events such as Durga Puja observed with large congregations. The temple compound is maintained as a place of regular ritual and community gathering.

The site is traditionally believed to have origins in the medieval period and local tradition links its foundation to earlier centuries; the complex has been rebuilt and renovated at various times over its long history. It remains a living religious site rather than a museum piece.

• Festivals: Major Hindu festivals such as Durga Puja draw large numbers of devotees and are among the busiest times to visit the temple complex.

• Plan to visit early in the morning to join or observe morning pūjā when the temple is quieter and more atmospheric; being in central Dhaka, factor in extra travel time to avoid peak traffic hours.
• Shoes must be removed inside and modest dress is expected-observe signage about photography and follow temple staff directions, particularly during ceremonies when restrictions are often in place.
• Combine a temple visit with a short walk around the adjacent Ramna/Shahbagh area to understand the site's civic setting; expect more security or queues during national holidays or major religious events.
