How to Get to Debar
Debar is best reached by road from Ohrid, Struga or Skopje; there are no direct major air routes into Debar itself. Regional buses serve the town and are the most practical public-transport choice for visitors.
Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport (OHD): Ohrid is the closest commercial airport for western North Macedonia; seasonal flights operate here. From OHD you’ll typically travel by taxi or bus to Struga or Ohrid and then catch a bus toward Debar; total travel time to Debar is about 1-1.5 hours by road.
Skopje International Airport (SKP): Skopje is the country’s main international airport. From SKP take a bus or car to Debar-the drive is roughly 2.5-3.5 hours depending on route and traffic; buses from Skopje to Debar are available although less frequent than to Ohrid.
Bus: Buses are the principal way to reach Debar. Debar has a local bus station with services to Ohrid, Struga and larger centres like Skopje; the trip from Ohrid/Struga takes about 45-75 minutes and fares are modest. For cross-country travel use the main bus terminals in Skopje or Ohrid to find connections.
Train: North Macedonia’s rail network does not provide direct or convenient passenger services to Debar; buses are the recommended public transport option.
