Prague & Central Bohemia
April’s weather turns changeable: warm sunny afternoons alternate with showery days and possible late frosts in surrounding lowlands. Cherry blossoms appear in Stromovka and the gardens of Vyšehrad, and tramkers and cyclists return to riverside paths; expect river levels to be moderate after spring rains. Tourist numbers rise but remain well below July and August; bring a compact umbrella and breathable layers for brisk hikes in nearby Český ráj.
South Bohemia & Šumava
April delivers a noticeable green-up in South Bohemia even if higher trails retain patches of snow; daytime temperatures around 8-15°C make it pleasant for exploring Český Krumlov before the summer flurry. Many rural attractions and summer boat services on the Vltava reopen toward month’s end, but showers and chilly nights remain likely. Carry layered waterproofs and be ready for muddy tracks in the countryside.
Northern Bohemia & Krkonoše (Mountains)
By April valley floors warm significantly but the Krkonoše retains snowpack; lower towns such as Trutnov see budding trees while higher trails remain icy or slushy. Spring skiing is still possible at higher resorts early in the month, but many trails become muddy; stream crossings swell. This is a quiet shoulder season for mountain lodges-bring layered clothing, waterproof boots and patience for variable trail conditions.
Bohemian-Moravian Highlands (Vysočina) & South Bohemian Uplands
April often shows rapid spring changes: meadows flush green and orchards around Žďár nad Sázavou bloom, yet higher ridges can see late snow that delays some hiking. Small cultural festivals reappear and rural cycling routes become attractive, though muddy sections and swollen streams require caution. Pack a midweight jacket, waterproofs and expect cool nights well into the month.
South Moravia (Brno, Pálava, Lednice)
April sees spring come early to the wine country: orchards and vineyard terraces green up quickly and temperatures often climb toward 15°C. The Pálava Hills offer pleasant hiking as wildflowers and birds return, while Lednice-Valtice opens up for longer walks and bike rides. Expect occasional rain showers and chilly evenings; bring layers and pack comfortable walking shoes for uneven vineyard terrain.
Moravian-Silesian Beskids & Jeseníky (Eastern Mountains)
April sees rapid melting at valley levels in the Jeseníky with spring returning to lower forests, though higher trails can remain snow-covered into the month. Water levels rise in streams and waterfalls, which makes for attractive photography near Rejvíz and other natural sites but also muddy paths. Bring waterproof boots and warm layers, and check local refuge openings before planning overnight hikes.
