How to Get to Curridabat
Curridabat is a suburban district east of central San José and is best reached from Juan Santamaría Airport (SJO) by taxi or shuttle, or by bus from downtown San José. Local buses are cheap and frequent for daily travel.
Juan Santamaría International (SJO): SJO (Alajuela) is Costa Rica’s main international airport. From SJO take a direct taxi to Curridabat (about 25-40 minutes depending on traffic) or an airport shuttle into San José and then a short bus/taxi onward; taxi fares from SJO to Curridabat are commonly CRC 12,000-20,000 (~USD 20-35).
Tobías Bolaños (SYQ): SYQ (San José downtown) is a smaller airport mainly for domestic flights and private charters. It sits closer to Curridabat; a short taxi ride (15-25 minutes) is usually sufficient and costs considerably less than from SJO.
Train: Costa Rica’s rail network has limited passenger commuter services around the Greater San José area; check current commuter schedules for stations near Curridabat.
Bus: Public buses from San José depart frequently for Curridabat and the wider eastside suburbs. Urban bus fares are inexpensive (roughly CRC 200-500 depending on distance). From downtown San José you can reach Curridabat in 20-40 minutes by bus depending on traffic.
