Corisco is a small island in the Gulf of Guinea that belongs to Equatorial Guinea’s Litoral province. It is a low-lying island with mangroves, reefs and small fishing settlements rather than developed tourist infrastructure.
The shoreline features beaches, fringing coral and areas used by local fishers; recreational facilities are limited and most visits are by boat from the nearest mainland ports. The island is valued locally for fishing and coastal ecosystems rather than mass tourism.
European powers visited and contested many of the islands in this part of the Gulf of Guinea during the 19th and early 20th centuries; Corisco subsequently became part of Equatorial Guinea’s territory.
