City Hall Park

City Hall Park is a small public park in Lower Manhattan, New York City, immediately north of the municipal complex and adjacent to the Civic Center. It sits at the center of the city’s municipal institutions and fronts historic government buildings.

The park contains lawns, paved walkways, seating and a small number of monuments and memorials. It is framed by important municipal structures including New York City Hall and the nearby Tweed Courthouse, serving as a pedestrian space and informal gathering point for workers, residents and visitors.

The park developed alongside the construction of City Hall in the early 19th century and has been part of the city’s civic landscape since then, with surrounding buildings added over the 19th and 20th centuries. Its form and uses have evolved as municipal functions concentrated in the Civic Center area.

Located in the Civic Center neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, the park lies between Broadway and Centre Street next to City Hall and is within walking distance of Foley Square and the Manhattan Municipal Building.
