2 World Trade Center Building

2 World Trade Center refers historically to the South Tower of the original World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan and currently to the site within the rebuilt World Trade Center master plan. The original South Tower rose to 110 storeys and was completed in 1973.

The original 2 World Trade Center was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. Since then the site has been incorporated into the World Trade Center redevelopment; plans for a new 2 World Trade Center have been part of phased rebuilding efforts but the original tower no longer exists.

The original complex was designed by Minoru Yamasaki and developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a commercial office complex. After the 2001 attacks the plot has been redeveloped alongside the Memorial, museum and other new office towers as part of an overall master plan for Lower Manhattan.

The site sits in Lower Manhattan near the Hudson River waterfront, adjacent to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum and the transportation hub at the World Trade Center.
