Choga Mami is a prehistoric site in Diyala Governorate noted by archaeologists for early irrigation and settlement remains; visitors are mainly researchers studying Neolithic and Chalcolithic field systems.
Choga Mami (also spelt Chogha Mami) is an archaeological site in Diyala Governorate in eastern Iraq notable for Neolithic and Ubaid-period occupation. Excavations have revealed features and artefacts associated with early settled agriculture and irrigation in Mesopotamia.
Excavated archaeological deposits at the site date to the 6th millennium BCE and later, and the site is cited in studies of the origins of irrigation and village life in the Tigris-Euphrates region. Finds include domestic architecture, pottery typical of early Ubaid contexts and small-scale irrigation features.
The site is located in the Diyala region of eastern Iraq, within the broader Mesopotamian alluvial plain where early farming communities established permanent settlements.
