Chillán Viejo is adjacent to Chillán and accessed primarily by road from Concepción or Santiago. Long-distance buses are common; there is a passenger rail station in Chillán but coaches are usually the most reliable option for travellers.

By Air

Carriel Sur Airport, Concepción (CCP): The closest major airport serving south-central Chile is Carriel Sur in Concepción. From Concepción you can rent a car or take a bus to Chillán (the drive is roughly 1.5-2 hours) and then a short transfer to Chillán Viejo.

Santiago Arturo Merino Benítez (SCL): For international flights fly into Santiago (SCL) and continue by long-distance bus or rental car to Chillán. Long-distance buses from Santiago to Chillán take about 5-6 hours and are the common public option.

By Train & Bus

Train: Chillán has a passenger railway station (Estación Chillán) on the southern rail line; however, most travellers use buses because services and schedules can be limited. Check state rail operator schedules before planning.

Bus: Frequent long-distance buses run between Santiago and Chillán (5-6 hours) with operators such as Turbus and Pullman Bus. In Chillán you’ll find local buses or taxis to reach Chillán Viejo (a very short trip from central Chillán).
