The stadium hosts Scottish Premiership matches, domestic cup fixtures and European club games and offers a bowl-shaped seating arrangement with stands on all four sides. The current stadium was opened in the mid-1990s, replacing earlier stands on the same site; the club has occupied the Parkhead site since the late 19th century.
Celtic Park lies in the east end of Glasgow near major transport routes and the Parkhead Cross area, and it functions as a focus for match-day activity and club events in the city.
- Capacity and tenancy: Current stadium capacity is about 60,000 and it is the home ground of Celtic Football Club since the modern stadium opened in the 1990s.
How to Get to Celtic Park #
Celtic Park is in the Parkhead area about 2 miles (3-4 km) east of Glasgow city centre. From Glasgow Central or Queen Street you can take suburban rail to Dalmarnock or Bridgeton stations (Argyle Line/Glasgow suburban services); both are within roughly a 10-20 minute walk of the stadium. There are frequent city buses from Buchanan Bus Station and the city centre that stop on routes to Parkhead; by car it is a short drive from the M8/central Glasgow following signs for Parkhead.
Tips for Visiting Celtic Park #
- Avoid driving on match day-use public transport and follow pre-stadium signage to reach the Parkhead/Parkhead Cross entrances, which funnel crowds efficiently and sit close to the main turnstiles.
- Arrive at least an hour before kick-off to experience the pre-match atmosphere around the Green Brigade area and to avoid queues at the merchandise stalls and entrances.
- If you prefer a quieter experience, book a stadium tour or visit the club museum on a non-match day when access is straightforward and crowds are minimal.
Best Time to Visit Celtic Park #
Visit during the football season (late summer to spring) if you want the full match-day atmosphere; summer is best for quieter tours.
