Cartago is easily reached by road from San José (SJO and SYQ). Frequent public buses and short taxi rides make it an easy day trip or base for visiting nearby national parks and the Irazu volcano.

By Air

Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO): The main airport for visitors to Cartago and the Central Valley, about 40-60 minutes by road to Cartago depending on traffic. Private transfers and taxis take around 40-60 minutes; expect USD 30-60 for a private transfer.
