Canna is a small island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, part of the Small Isles archipelago and administered within the Highland council area. The island is notable for its cultural history, a historic estate house and its designation as a nature reserve.

Visitors come for the combination of heritage and wildlife: Canna House and Garden contains collections and displays related to the island’s past, while coastal machair and sea cliffs support breeding seabirds and visiting marine mammals. Walking routes around the island provide easy access to the shoreline and viewpoints.

Historically the estate and its owners influenced settlement patterns and land use on the island; the National Trust for Scotland now manages much of the property and landscape for conservation and public access. Small-scale crofting and community life continue on the island.

Canna lies west of the Isle of Rùm and northwest of the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides. The nearest regular ferry connections link the island with Rùm and mainland ports, and the island is reached by scheduled boat services that are subject to tides and weather.

  • Conservation management: Part of the Small Isles group in the Inner Hebrides and managed for both conservation and cultural heritage by the National Trust for Scotland.
  • Ferry access: Served by a small passenger ferry service linking Canna with the nearby islands of Rùm and mainland ports, with limited sailings that are weather dependent.
