How to Get to Büyük Ada#
Ferries depart from several Istanbul terminals including Kabataş, Bostancı and Kadıköy. The trip from Kabataş takes approximately 1-1.5 hours depending on the ferry type (seabus vs. conventional). On arrival, the island is explored on foot, by rented bicycle, or by electric vehicles.
Tips for Visiting Büyük Ada#
- Catch the ferry from Kabataş (Istanbul) early in the morning to avoid commuter traffic and to secure a good spot on the deck.
- Rent a bicycle or the ubiquitous electric minibuses (fayton alternatives are less frequent) to circle the island-cars are restricted.
- Try the local almond cookies (şekerpare) in the small cafes behind the harbour.
Best Time to Visit Büyük Ada#
Late spring and early autumn are ideal for mild weather and smaller crowds; summer is lively but crowded.
