How to Get to Bükk National Park

The park is a short drive from Miskolc (about 10-30 km depending on which entrance). From Miskolc, local buses and taxis reach Lillafüred, which is a common base for exploring the southern Bükk. For northern sectors use Bükkszentlászló or Szilvásvárad as trailheads. The Miskolc-Tiszai railway station connects to national routes; hire a taxi or join a local excursion for remote trailheads.

Tips for Visiting Bükk National Park

  • Take the main trail network from the village of Lillafüred - guides in the area know the karst sinkholes and old mining ruins that most visitors miss.
  • Visit in late spring for the beech forest's first green and wildflowers; autumn offers dramatic color and fewer people.
  • Wear sturdy boots for the limestone karst; ankle twists happen on the sharp, uneven rock underfoot.
