How to Get to Breakers#

Breakers on Grand Cayman is best reached via Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM) with onward travel by taxi, rental car or the island’s public minibuses. There is no rail network and most visitors use taxis or hire vehicles for convenience.

By Air

Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM): Breakers (Grand Cayman) is reached via GCM, the island’s main international airport in George Town. Airport-to-Breakers travel is typically 20-40 minutes by road depending on exact location; expect taxi fares in the CI$20-40 range (approx. US$24-48).

Regional connections: Travelers from other Caribbean islands usually connect to GCM; international flights from Miami and other hubs are common and are the most convenient way onto the island.

By Train & Bus

Train: No rail service exists on Grand Cayman.

Bus: Public minibuses follow set routes from George Town and are an inexpensive option (CI$1-2 per ride) to reach nearby neighborhoods and beaches. For direct door-to-door transfers or late-night travel taxis and private transfers are recommended; travel times across the island are short (15-45 minutes).

How to Get Around Breakers#

Fly into Owen Roberts (GCM) and use taxis or a rental car for the most convenient travel; public minibuses are cheap for short hops but do not replace a car for full island exploration.

  • Taxi / private transfer (CI$20-40 (one-way)) - Taxis from GCM to resort areas like Breakers are fast and reliable-expect CI$20-40 depending on distance. Private transfers can be pre-booked for fixed rates and are useful for groups or tight schedules.
  • Public bus (CI$1-2) - The public bus network provides cheap travel along major corridors; fares are typically CI$1-2 per ride. Buses are useful for short hops but follow fixed stops rather than offering door-to-door service.
  • Car rental (US$50-120 per day) - Rent a car for full flexibility around the island. Driving is on the left; check insurance coverage and local rules. Car hire is particularly useful if you plan to explore beaches and attractions around the coast.
  • Bicycle / scooter rental (CI$10-40 per day) - Short trips and beach-area exploration are often done by bicycle or scooter rental. Helmets and local traffic conditions should be checked-roads can be narrow and busy near tourist hubs.
  • Walking - Walking is pleasant for short distances around beach areas and resorts, but the island is best navigated with a short vehicle trip for longer distances. Sun protection is necessary year-round.
