Grand Cayman is the largest of the Cayman Islands and the main population, tourism and financial centre of the territory. The island is located in the western Caribbean Sea and hosts the capital, George Town.

Beaches and dive sites draw most visitors, including the long sandy stretch known as Seven Mile Beach on the west coast and numerous offshore reefs. Popular day‑trip and marine attractions include shallow sandbars and dive sites where visitors can swim with stingrays and explore coral habitats.

Historically a small set of settlements, Grand Cayman developed through the 20th century into a major tourism and offshore financial centre; infrastructure includes resorts, marinas and an international airport that connect it to regional and international markets.

The island lies in the western Caribbean Sea, south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica, with George Town on the south coast providing the main port and air connections.

  • Role: The island is the largest of the Cayman Islands and the territory's principal centre for tourism and finance.
  • Activities and seasonality: Best known for coral reefs and clear water, making it a primary destination for diving and snorkeling year‑round; the dry season (roughly November-April) is peak tourist season.

What to See #

  • Seven Mile Beach: A continuous white‑sand shoreline on the island's western coast, extending roughly seven miles and lined with resorts, public beaches and coastal infrastructure.
  • Stingray City: A shallow sandbar and boat‑access dive / snorkel site in North Sound popular for close encounters with wild southern stingrays and short guided boat trips.
  • George Town: The capital and economic centre located on the island's south coast, hosting government offices, the main port and Owen Roberts International Airport nearby.
