Amazon & The North (Manaus, Belém, Alter do Chão)

June brings noticeably drier air to parts of the basin, especially in the western Amazonas state near Tefé and near the Jurua - daytime heat remains but humidity eases and the sky clears more often. Water levels continue to recede, exposing oxbow lakes and beaches that are excellent for fishing and riverside camping; wildlife concentrates on shrinking water bodies, improving sightings. Nights can feel fresher in upriver lodges; a light sweater is useful and expect smoother road travel than in the wet months.

Northeast Coast (Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza, Jericoacoara)

June marks the start of Brazil’s high season in many northeastern beach towns: the sea is warm, trade winds persist in the far north, and cities from Salvador to Recife see an uptick in visitors during school holidays. Rain is lower in much of the region, but when storms come they can be intense and brief. Expect busy ferries to nearby islands and packed beachfront restaurants; book transport and boat tours in advance.

Northeast Interior - The Sertão & Chapadas (Petrolina, Juazeiro, Chapada Diamantina)

June brings the driest and coolest nights of the year across many interior areas: the Chapada’s altitude yields refreshing early mornings, while the lower Sertão stays hot by day but very dry. River excursions on the São Francisco are calmer and more predictable, and dune-plain walks are easier without midday storms. Pack sun protection and a light jacket for chill nights in higher-altitude guesthouses.

Central-West (Brasília, Pantanal, Cuiabá, Bonito)

June ushers in the dry season across the Central-West: lowland grasses brown, rivers drop, and the Pantanal’s game becomes easier to find on drier ground. Night temperatures in Brasília fall into pleasantly cool ranges and skies are mostly clear-excellent for stargazing and long drives. This is high season for wildlife safaris: book lodges early, bring binoculars and dust protection for vehicles on dry tracks.

Southeast (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Ouro Preto, Paraty)

June is one of the coolest months in the Southeast: São Paulo and Rio see fresh mornings and pleasant days, with occasional cold fronts bringing rain and lower temperatures for a day or two. Ouro Preto and the highlands of Minas enjoy crisp air, and night markets and indoor cultural venues are welcoming. Pack a warm layer for evenings, particularly if you’ll be in higher-elevation towns like Campos do Jordão or Serra da Mantiqueira.

The South (Florianópolis, Curitiba, Gramado, Foz do Iguaçu)

June marks the heart of southern winter: cold fronts reach the region and mornings can be chilly, especially inland-Gramado and Canela show clear winter vibes with bold, cool air. Snow at the highest elevations (São Joaquim, Urubici) is rare but possible in strong polar outbreaks and draws photographers when it occurs. Bring warm coats and be aware that some coastal hikes are breezy and raw on exposed cliffs.
