Bowman Lake (Montana)

Bowman Lake is a lake in Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana, located in the park’s North Fork area. It is a backcountry-oriented lake valued for its remoteness and outdoor recreation opportunities.

The shoreline offers trailheads, a campground and opportunities for non-motorized boating, fishing and hiking; the area typically attracts fewer visitors than the park’s eastern corridors. Facilities are basic and services are seasonal, so visitors should plan for self-sufficiency.

The lake occupies a basin carved by glacial ice during the Pleistocene and is part of the park’s glacial landscape. Its shoreline and surrounding forest have been managed as part of Glacier National Park since the park’s establishment.

Geographically it lies in the northwest sector of Glacier National Park, reached from the park’s North Fork access road; the nearest small community in that region is Polebridge and the area is accessed by largely unpaved roads.
