Bou Sra Waterfall Travel Guide

Bou Sra Waterfall is outside of Sen Monorom, near the small town of Pich Chenda. It’s one of the favorite natural sites in Mondulkiri Province and makes a popular daytrip destination.

This is actually the largest waterfall in Cambodia, and it’s a popular place to go swimming and picnicking. It’s divided into three separate tiers. The first tier falls more than 30 feet, and the second tier doubles this. For most tourists, these are the only two portions of the waterfall that are visited, and many don’t even find out that there’s a third tier.

The water flows faster at the third tier, and the forest is thick enough that it’s impractical to approach this part of the waterfall. There aren’t any maintained trails, and locals will tell you that dangerous wildlife makes it unwise to visit this part of the waterfall. Whether this is true or not, few venture this far.

The other two tiers are accessible by a recently installed sealed road. It’s easy to get here by moto, hire car or motorbike. Visitors can get to Bou Sra Waterfall in less than an hour from Sen Monorom.

Neighboring Sen Monorom is popular with domestic tourists because of its relatively cool climate. Local travel agencies call it the ‘Switzerland of Cambodia’ though that’s certainly on overstatement. In any case, the rolling hills and cool breezes are a refreshing change from the climate at lower elevations.
