Okavango Delta & Panhandle (Northwest)

June is peak dry-season magic for the Delta: clear skies, cool mornings (near 5-10°C before dawn) and warm days ideal for boat and walking safaris. The great Okavango flood is usually well underway by now, with channels swellin - mokoro and boat trips are offered in many areas and wildlife viewing is excellent around permanent water. Visitors should pack a warm jacket for dawn drives and expect higher rates and fuller lodges as this is high season.

Chobe Riverfront, Linyanti & Savuti (Far North)

June offers crisp, clear mornings and sun-drenched days; the Chobe River becomes the magnet for herds of elephant, buffalo and their predators, giving predictable, high-quality viewing. Linyanti and Savuti are at their most photogenic on still mornings; the chance of seeing big game along river margins is exceptionally high. Cold early starts call for thermal layers, and June is among the busiest months for booking riverfront safaris.

Makgadikgadi Pans & Nxai Pan (Salt Pans and Surrounding Plains)

June brings cool mornings and expansive, dry salt pans under huge blue skies; wildlife viewing improves as animals congregate at permanent waterholes and camps in the area begin to fill. The ground is firm enough for guided 4x4 drives across wide flats, and Kubu Island offers excellent photographic foregrounds against clear light. Expect colder evenings suitable for campfires-bring a warm hat and layers for dawn and dusk.

Central Kalahari (CKGR and Surrounds)

June brings crisp, often chilly mornings with clear skies, and days that warm pleasantly-classic winter safari conditions in the Kalahari. Wildlife viewing improves as animals are drawn to boreholes and rivers, and the low humidity makes long game drives comfortable. Bring warm layers for pre-dawn starts and allow time between destinations; distances and few services mean logistics are slower than in other parks.

Southern Kalahari & Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (Southwest)

June keeps mornings cold and days sunny, and the clear winter light is perfect for photography across the burnt-orange sands and skeletal acacias. Predator activity is easier to observe when prey congregates at boreholes; nights are cold, so a good sleeping bag or insulated layers are essential. Expect low humidity and minimal insects, which is comfortable for many travellers.

Southeast Lowveld & Urban Areas (Gaborone, Francistown, Palapye and Surrounds)

June delivers crisp, cool mornings and warm days in Gaborone; this is comfortable travel weather for both urban exploration and nearby game reserves. Accommodation prices outside major safari hubs can be more favourable and services run reliably. Remember to bring warmer clothing for dawn game drives or evening cultural events, and prepare for clear starry nights.
