How to Get to Bolnisi#
Bolnisi in Kvemo Kartli is most easily reached by road from Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) or from Tbilisi city. There is no direct passenger rail service for final access; minibuses and taxis are the usual onward options.
Tbilisi International (TBS): The main international airport for visiting Bolnisi (about 60-90 minutes by road). From Tbilisi you can take a taxi, private transfer or catch marshrutka (minibus) services from the city to southern regions; taxis and private cars are the easiest.
Kutaisi (KUT): Kutaisi is another airport option but it is further away for Bolnisi and requires a longer onward road transfer; most international visitors use Tbilisi for convenience.
Train: There is no major direct rail service into Bolnisi; Georgia’s rail network is limited for this route. The nearest rail hubs are in Tbilisi and Marneuli; onward travel to Bolnisi is normally by road.
Bus / Marshrutka: Marshrutkas (shared minibuses) run from Tbilisi (Didube bus station) and Marneuli towards Bolnisi and towns in Kvemo Kartli. Journey time from Tbilisi is roughly 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic; fares are inexpensive (typically a few Georgian Lari).
