Coastal & Littoral (Cotonou, Porto‑Novo, Grand‑Popo, Ganvié)

November brings a tapering of the short rains: days grow sunnier and humidity drops in fits, making coastal sightseeing and boat trips to Ganvié more reliable. The season change clears the lagoon and the city, and ferries return to steadier schedules; weekends see more domestic visitors returning to beaches. Travelers should note that while the weather is improving toward dry season, sudden showers remain possible early in the month, so keep a light poncho handy.

Central Plateau & Collines (Abomey, Bohicon, Dassa‑Zoumé, Cové)

November brings a pronounced reduction in rainfall and generally sunnier days, excellent for visiting open‑air markets and archeological sites without the mud of the wet season. The landscape remains rich from recent rains, and roads are in better shape for exploring villages around Cové and Bohicon. Light rain is still possible early month, but by late November the region is comfortably dry and pleasantly warm.

Atakora Highlands & Pendjari (Natitingou, Atakora Mountains, Pendjari National Park)

November offers much drier, sunnier conditions and is one of the best months for visiting the Atakora and Pendjari: roads are passable, wildlife is easier to find, and mornings are fresh. Tourist activity increases compared with the wet months, so book popular lodges in advance if traveling in December as well. Lightweight daytime clothing plus a warm layer for nights near the escarpments is ideal.

Northern Plains & Niger Valley (Kandi, Malanville, Karimama, and the Niger border)

November delivers clear, hot days and comfortable nights as the dry season establishes across the plains; roads are firm and reliable for long drives north‑south. This is a good month for visiting rural communities and national border crossings without the disruptions of the wet season. Sunscreen, hats and plenty of water remain essential for daytime excursions.
