Coastal & Littoral (Cotonou, Porto‑Novo, Grand‑Popo, Ganvié)

December settles into the dry season with pleasantly warm days and much drier air brought by the harmattan wind later in the month; evenings can be noticeably cooler than the humid months. Holiday travel picks up, especially around Cotonou and Porto‑Novo, and coastal resorts see more visitors - book ahead. Sunscreen and breathable layers are enough for most days, and the clearer skies make port and lagoon photography excellent.

Central Plateau & Collines (Abomey, Bohicon, Dassa‑Zoumé, Cové)

December settles into the dry, warm season with clear skies, cooler nights and firm roads - ideal for visiting museums and the royal palaces of Abomey. The harmattan can increase dust on some days, especially away from forested areas, but daytime touring is very comfortable. This is a popular time for local events and for combining cultural itineraries with short hikes in the Collines.

Atakora Highlands & Pendjari (Natitingou, Atakora Mountains, Pendjari National Park)

December is firmly dry and hot by day with crisp mornings and the first hints of harmattan dust possible late month; the Niger is low and riverside life slows into the dry season rhythm.
