The Belvedere fort (Forte di Belvedere) is a Renaissance-era fortress on the southern slopes of Florence, Tuscany. It was built in the late 16th century as a defensive stronghold to control the high ground south of the city and to protect the Pitti Palace area.

The fortification features substantial masonry ramparts and bastions arranged to defend a commanding hilltop position, with internal courtyards and service buildings for a garrison and artillery. Terrace areas and elevated walkways give expansive views over Florence and the surrounding countryside.

Commissioned in the Medici period, the fort was designed to strengthen urban defenses and to secure strategic approaches to the city; it also had a role as a secure refuge for the ruling family when required. Over the centuries its military use declined and it has been preserved as a historic structure and viewpoint.

Geographically the fort occupies a prominent hill on the south side of central Florence, near the Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace, overlooking the Arno and the historic centre of the city.

Forte Belvedere sits on the south bank of the Arno, a 10-20 minute walk from Ponte Vecchio across hill paths that climb from the Oltrarno district. Taxis and bikes can reach Piazzale Michelangelo and then a short walk connects to the fort terraces.
