Beira Lake is an urban lake in central Colombo, Western Province, Sri Lanka, forming part of the city’s historic waterfront area. It is surrounded by commercial and civic buildings and includes several small islands and temples.
The lake edge offers promenades, bridges and views across water to the downtown skyline; the Seema Malaka temple is built on platforms over the lake and is a common photographic subject. Small boat trips and lakeside walks provide urban leisure within Colombo.
Originally part of a coastal lagoon and waterways into the city, the lake has been reshaped over centuries by reclamation and urban development; in the 20th century it became more enclosed by commercial construction while retaining pockets of open water and temple sites.
Beira Lake lies within central Colombo, close to the Fort and Kollupitiya districts, and is surrounded by major roads and business areas in the Western Province.
