Barberena is reached overland from Guatemala City; the closest international airport is La Aurora (GUA). There are no passenger trains serving the town, so buses, shared shuttles and taxis from Guatemala City or nearby departmental hubs are the usual options.

By Air

La Aurora International Airport (GUA): The main international gateway for Barberena is La Aurora in Guatemala City. From GUA you can reach Barberena by private taxi (approx. 1.5-2 hours) or by booked shuttle services to the southern departments; expect a road journey of around 90-120 minutes depending on traffic.

Quetzaltenango (GUA has the main flights): There are no regular commercial flights into Barberena itself; Quetzaltenango’s air services do not serve Barberena directly. Overland connections from Guatemala City remain the practical option.

By Train & Bus

Train: Guatemala has no regular national passenger rail service; rail is not an option for reaching Barberena.

Bus: Regular intercity buses and shared minibuses (colectivos/chicken buses) run between Guatemala City and towns in Santa Rosa Department.
