Northwestern Bahamas (Grand Bahama & Abacos)

March brings longer, warmer days while the persistent northeasterlies help with sailing; Spring Break can push crowds and noise in Marsh Harbour and parts of Grand Bahama, especially around popular beaches and bars. Visibility in the water improves after the winter swell, so snorkeling around the Abaco reefs and the Lucayan caves is rewarding, though charter prices climb. Carry reef shoes and a light rain layer for the occasional short shower and watch for local festivals that can fill rooms fast.

New Providence & Paradise Island (Nassau)

March sees daytimes warming and the city filling with spring-breakers in parts of the island; downtown Nassau and resorts can be noisy and busy, especially around hotels on Cable Beach and the cruise port. The water is warming, ideal for diving to sites like the Clifton Heritage National Park reef, though shorelines near the cruise terminal will be crowded. Carry cash and expect to make reservations early for popular restaurants and tours.

The Exumas & Central Out Islands

March brings increasing warmth and more private yachts cruising the chain; day trips to Stocking Island and its famed chat ‘n’ chill beach bar are lively. The tidal flats around Staniel Cay are excellent for spotting nurse sharks and for shallow-water snorkeling, though the peak-season crowds swell on weekends. Bring reef shoes for limestone flats and expect higher ferry and charter rates than in summer.

Andros, Bimini & Western Cays

March warms a touch and attracts more anglers to Bimini and bonefishers to Andros’s flats; day trips sell out on long weekends. Diving visibility is excellent after winter swells; the Tongue of the Ocean drop-off at Bimini is a draw for experienced divers. Light, breathable clothing and reef-safe sunscreen are essential, and reserve inter-island charters in advance if you want to reach remote Andros settlements.

Southern Bahamas & Inagua (Long Island, Acklins, Crooked Island, Great Inagua)

March brings warming days and increasing daylight that’s ideal for long coastal hikes and quiet beachcombing on Crooked Island and Long Island; tourism infrastructure stays minimal so trips feel remote. Dean’s Blue Hole on Long Island offers stunning freediving conditions, though currents can be present-use a local guide. Carry mosquito repellent and a good sunhat; services such as car rentals and restaurants may be sparse but friendly.
