Grand Bahama & Abacos
April warms noticeably and humidity begins to rise; that makes the shallow flats around the Abacos especially good for tarpon and bonefish but also attracts more private yachts and charter groups. Ferry routes to smaller cays start to run more reliably than in winter’s chop, but expect higher prices and fuller boats. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing and sunscreen-the sun is stronger and salty breezes won’t feel as cool as they did two months ago.
Nassau
April shifts toward fewer visitors than winter but still warm, with afternoons occasionally humid; Good Friday and Easter traditions can affect opening hours and local crowds. Boat charters to Blue Lagoon Island and snorkeling trips remain excellent as visibility improves; ferry desks tend to be less overwhelmed than in peak winter. Light, breathable clothing and reef-safe sunscreen are essentials, along with a sun hat for midday heat.
April’s heat is noticeable in the midday sun but still tempered by sea breezes; Long Island trips from Exuma reveal calmer lagoons and clearer diving conditions. This is a transition month-fewer winter crowds than March but the island ambience stays active as dive shops and charters prepare for summer. Lightweight clothing, reef-safe sunscreen, and reservations for boat tours will keep the trip smooth.
April sees increasing humidity and more sunny days-great for long bonefishing days or exploring Andros’s inland blue holes and creeks. Bimini’s marinas buzz with anglers preparing for peak seasonal tournaments, and day-trip operators to the western cays are busy. Bring insect repellent for mangrove walks and a hat for midday sun; accommodation options on Andros are limited so plan ahead.
Long Island, Acklins, Crooked Island, Great Inagua
April warms further with more humidity arriving; this is still shoulder season for the southern cays and a good time to visit before the heavier rains and heat of summer. Boat access to remote coves is generally reliable, and birding in Inagua is particularly rewarding as resident species are active. Bring light, breathable clothing, drinking water for day trips, and anticipate simple accommodations in many places.
