The Avenue of the Baobabs is a line of large, native baobab trees along a rural road in the Menabe region of western Madagascar near the town of Morondava. The trees are notable for their massive cylindrical trunks and distinctive silhouettes and attract photographers and visitors for their visual impact.
The site consists of a concentrated group of mature Adansonia grandidieri trees that stand along a dirt track for several hundred metres, creating a natural avenue. The trees are centuries old, with very large trunk diameters and tall crowns that dominate the dry landscape.
The avenue developed naturally where these baobabs occur on a semi-arid plain and has become a popular stop on routes connecting coastal towns in Menabe. Conservation and local management efforts focus on protecting the trees from agricultural pressure and ensuring visitor access is sustainable.
