Asan is a historic market square and busy intersection in central Kathmandu, Nepal, and has long functioned as a commercial hub for the city. The site is a centuries-old trading quarter within the Kathmandu Valley.

The area features a dense cluster of market lanes and permanent stalls selling spices, pulses, textiles and daily produce, arranged around an eight-way junction that concentrates pedestrian traffic. Street vendors, covered shops and narrow alleys give the square a high-intensity market character with continuous activity throughout the day.

Asan developed as part of the traditional Newar urban fabric and served local and regional trade networks for generations. Its role as a trading and social centre has been maintained into the present day, with little interruption to its commercial function.

The square sits in central Kathmandu within the built-up core of the city, surrounded by other historic market neighbourhoods and narrow urban streets. It is located in the Kathmandu Valley and is readily accessible from other central city landmarks.
