Much of the appeal is outdoors. Gesäuse National Park is an Austrian national park with dramatic limestone gorges, while Koralpe is a mountain range popular for hiking and skiing. For high viewpoints, Hochtor is a high mountain pass in the Gesäuse range with scenic views, and Zirbitzkogel is an alpine peak in Styria popular with hikers. Ingeringsee adds an alpine lake setting with mountain scenery.
For history and culture, Seckau Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Styria with a Romanesque-Gothic church, known for monastic architecture and art. Erzberg mine offers a different side of Styria as a massive open-pit iron ore mine. Nearby, Ruine Liechtenstein provides medieval castle ruins near Maria Lankowitz.
