Zirbitzkogel

Zirbitzkogel is a mountain in the Austrian state of Styria and a prominent peak in its range, reaching about 2,396 metres above sea level. It is the highest point of the local mountain group and a popular destination for hikers and ski-tourers.

Marked trails lead from several alpine huts and parking areas to the summit, offering a relatively accessible alpine ascent with open summit meadows and 360-degree views. The mountain is used for summer hiking and winter ski touring rather than technical climbing.

Historically the area developed as a local alpine pasture and hiking destination; alpine huts and marked routes evolved to support mountain tourism. Land use is primarily recreational and conservation-oriented.

Zirbitzkogel sits in central-southern Austria in Styria, within reach of regional towns such as Murau and approximately a two- to three-hour drive from Graz depending on route.
