The Amphitheatre of El Jem is a large Roman amphitheatre located in the town of El Jem in central-eastern Tunisia. Built in the early 3rd century AD, it is one of the largest and best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in North Africa.
The structure is notable for its monumental scale, massive stone construction and arenas used for public spectacles such as gladiatorial contests. Visitors can walk in and around the surviving tiers and corridors and view the arena and remaining vaulted passages.

The Amphitheatre of El Jem sits in the town of El Jem (also El Djem) in Mahdia Governorate and is immediately adjacent to the town centre. It is reached by road: El Jem lies on the main coastal road RN1 between Sousse and Sfax, so drive along RN1 and follow signs for El Jem/El Djem; parking is available near the site.
Intercity buses and private cars commonly serve El Jem from major Tunisian cities; once in town the amphitheatre is a short walk from the central bus stops.
