How to Get to Akumal

Akumal is most often reached via Cancún Airport (CUN) followed by an ADO bus + taxi/collectivo or a private transfer. There is no rail service in the region; road transport (bus, colectivo or rental car) is the normal way to get around.

By Air

Cancún International Airport (CUN): The main international airport for Akumal and the Riviera Maya. Akumal is roughly a 1-1.5 hour drive from CUN depending on traffic (about 100-130 km). Options: ADO buses to Playa del Carmen or Tulum (tickets roughly MXN 200-450 / USD ~10-25), then taxi/collectivo to Akumal (about MXN 100-300 / USD ~5-15). Private airport transfers cost roughly USD 70-120 one-way for a car.

Cozumel Airport (CZM): Only relevant if you arrive via Cozumel ferry/flight; you would ferry to Playa del Carmen then continue by road. That route adds time and connection complexity compared with flying to CUN.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no passenger rail service in the Yucatán Peninsula.

Bus: ADO coaches run from Cancún airport and city to Playa del Carmen and Tulum. From Playa or Tulum take a taxi or local colectivo to Akumal; Playa-Akumal is roughly 30-40 minutes by road (collectivos typically cost under MXN 100). Taxis and shared vans are plentiful around major tourist hubs.
