Huangping is a county in eastern Guizhou at the junction of the S204 and S304 highways, 200kms northeast of Guiyang, the Guizhou capital. It is a region of numerous towns and villages and is a popular spot for visiting ethnic people.

The county of Huangping is pretty hilly, reaching heights of over 1,360m and a low point of over 500m. Consequently, there is good hiking and adventurists can also go river rafting.

There are numerous scenic spots for tourists to visit in Huangping County. Most notable is the Wuyang River. This sizeable river flows to the town of Zhenyuan, also in eastern Guizhou, and is popular with cruisers. Qili An Giang Canyon makes a nice stop-off and there is also an ancient battlefield and natural hot springs.

Shoppers can pick up all sorts of handmade items in the various villages of Huangping, with silverware, batiks, and embroidered items being popular. Various festivals and events go off in Huangping’s collection of Miao and Dong villages. The mid-November Miao Carnival is particularly interesting.
