Langde Travel Guide

Situated 20kms to the southeast of the industrial city of Kaili in eastern Guizhou, Langde is one of the main Miao villages of the region. It lies on the S203 highway from Kaili, a winding mountain road best accessed by bus.

Langde village consists of two parts that occupy the foot of Leigong Mountain. They are Lower Langde and Upper Langde, the latter being of most interest to tourists and where there are cobbled roads, wooden bridges, stone mills, and waterwheels. About 500 Miao villagers live here in just a few families.

A common perk of visiting Langde is the obligatory drinking of rice wine as a form of welcome. Folk songs are also part and parcel of a visit and the views from Upper Langde are gorgeous.

Getting There & Away

Langde is best got to by bus from Kaili, about 20kms to the north. It is 40 minutes on the Leishan-bound bus along highway S203 to an intersection, from where motorcycle taxis run to the village. Kaili is accessed by bus or train from Guiyang (the provincial capital) where there is an airport.
