Zlarin Island

Zlarin is a small Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Šibenik in Šibenik-Knin County. It is known locally for its traditional coral craft, pine-covered slopes and a compact village concentrated around a harbour.

The island’s main settlement provides basic services, guesthouses and boat connections to Šibenik; beaches and short coastal walks are common visitor activities. The island limits vehicle traffic, so movement is typically on foot, by bicycle, or small local vehicles.

Historically Zlarin’s economy drew on fishing and coral harvesting, and many local crafts and cultural traditions reflect that heritage. The island sits close to the Croatian mainland and is reached by a short ferry ride from Šibenik.

• Low-traffic island: Motor vehicles are restricted on the island and most transport is by foot, bicycle or small electric vehicles, preserving a quiet island character.
• Coral heritage: Traditional coral harvesting and processing were important historically; local craft and small-scale fishing remain part of the island economy.

Zlarin is an island off the coast near Šibenik. Take a car or bus to Šibenik (the coastal D8 road serves the town) and then the passenger ferry or catamaran from Šibenik harbour to Zlarin; ferry crossings are short and scheduled from Šibenik’s port, and the island’s main quays are a short walk from settlements.

• Catch one of the early ferries from Šibenik rather than arriving later in the day - you'll have more time ashore before the afternoon return-traffic and day-trippers fill the island.
• Land at the main pier and head inland: Zlarin is car-free and its coral-working workshops and quiet village lanes are easy to reach on foot, but many visitors stick to the waterfront and miss the small museums and local crafts.
• Visit outside the peak July-August weeks (late spring or September) to enjoy a quieter island atmosphere and more available tables at the small local konobas and galleries.
